Born as Lakshman Narayan Sharma in 1900 in the village of Akbarpur, now part of Firozabad district, Uttar Pradesh, Baba Neeb Karori Maharaj hailed from a prosperous Brahmin family. His father was Shri Durga Prasad Sharma, and his mother was Smt. Kausalya Devi. According to family traditions, he was married at the age of 11. However, feeling a deep spiritual calling, he left home to become a wandering sadhu (ascetic), dedicating his life to spiritual practices and devotion.

In 1958, at the age of 58, Baba Neeb Karori Maharaj experienced a profound spiritual awakening, prompting him to renounce his family life and embark on a journey across India as a wandering ascetic. During this period, he was known by various names, including Lakshman Das, Handi Wala Baba, Tikonia Wala Baba, and Tallaiya Baba, reflecting his diverse spiritual experiences and locations.

In the 1960s, Baba Neeb Karori Maharaj established two significant ashrams:

Kainchi Dham: Located in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, this ashram became a spiritual center for devotees. The name "Kainchi" translates to "scissors," derived from the two sharp hairpin bends in the mountainous road leading to the site.

Vrindavan Ashram: Situated in the holy city of Vrindavan, this ashram served as a sanctuary for spiritual seekers.

Under his guidance, over 100 temples were constructed, spreading his teachings and devotion to Lord Hanuman.

Baba Neeb Karori Maharaj emphasized the principles of Bhakti Yoga, focusing on devotion, selfless service, and unconditional love. He believed in the oneness of all religions and encouraged his followers to love and serve everyone, irrespective of their background. His teachings attracted numerous devotees, including prominent figures such as Ram Dass, Larry Brilliant, Krishna Das, Jai Uttal, and Dada Mukerjee, who played pivotal roles in disseminating his message globally.

On September 11, 1973, Baba Neeb Karori Maharaj passed away in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, at the age of 73. He had been returning from Agra, where he had consulted a heart specialist due to chest pains. During the journey, he slipped into a diabetic coma and was taken to a hospital in Vrindavan, where he attained Mahasamadhi. His last words were reportedly "Jaya Jagadish Hare," expressing his devotion to the divine.

In his honor, a Samadhi Mandir was constructed at the Vrindavan ashram, serving as a place of meditation and remembrance for his followers. The Kainchi Dham continues to be a significant pilgrimage site, attracting thousands of devotees annually.

Baba Neeb Karori Maharaj's influence extended beyond India, inspiring individuals worldwide. Notably, Steve Jobs visited India in search of spiritual guidance and was introduced to Baba's teachings, which profoundly impacted his life. Similarly, Julia Roberts and Mark Zuckerberg have expressed their admiration for Baba's philosophy.
